Summer has ended
Dang, time flies doesn't it. Summer is the fastest 2 months of the year.. All year you think about it and then it finally comes... only to be over in what feels like a blink of an eye. I had a great summer this year, go to do a bunch of fun stuff and went a lot of cool places. Hung with friends, visited family and slept in! What else could you want.. But summers gone and school has yet again returned, and i am ready for another year.

New Rod and Reel
Went and bought another rod and reel yesterday, got a BPS carbon lite micro-guide trigger rod 6'9" and a BPS carbon lite reel 6:1:1. So incredibly lightweight and durable. Once i got home i immediately went fishing and caught 4 nice bass between 2-3lbs. and the rod and reel worked amazing. I already want to go and buy another one!

Bass fishing at a local lake
I went fishing at a lake i haven't been to in about 3 months. I had such a fun time seeing that i ended up with 7 nice bass. My largest of the day was around 7lbs and put up a killer fight! Here are some pics of most of the bass..i wasn't able to take pics of 1-2 of them. I was able to take a short video of my bigger fish..although the video doesn't do the fish justice, i did manage to film it a little bit. In the video i call the bass 8lb's..but it ended up being 7 when i weighed it. I apologize for the video cutting off at the end because of battery trouble. I cant wait to go fishing again!

The cast is off!
Friday I had my cast taken off, such a relief. I'm so thankful the doctors said there is no need for surgery. So for the next month I'm in a fracture boot and will start physical therapy on my own with some small exercises prescribed by my doctor. After a month I'll go back and start real physical therapy for one more month. Here's a pic. of my fracture boot.

My Mom on the Best Life Barb Show
Congratulations! To my Mom for being the guest of last night's Best Life Barb woman's radio talk show. Mrs. Barb interviewed her about our adoption of Hope and the impact it has made on us as a family. I had a great time listening to the show and hearing the story through my moms eyes as the mother.

Ankle Update II
Only eleven more days till I get my cast off! Once I get my cast off, I'll receive a fracture boot that can come on and off allowing my ankle to get used to walking again. Therapy will also be needed once the cast is removed, so I'll be doing that as well. It's killing me not to be able to go fishing but I can't wait till I can. We still don't know if surgery is needed so hopefully all goes well with that situation. Thanks for reading, I'll post later with any more news.

Ankle Update
So last week I got my cast, and its been a lot more comfortable. The swelling has gone down and has helped the pain and throbbing to stop. Ill have the cast for a month and then go back and receive a fracture boot for another month while I go through physical therapy. Although getting around is a little difficult, Life has been good and I have no complaints.
Heres a picture of my cast.

My Dislocated Ankle
On Sunday I was playing some basketball with my friends and we were messing around dunking the ball. The Dunk turned into a pretty scary moment for me as I landed incorrectly on my foot and the bone was completely popped out of socket to the side of my leg. I know God was in control of the situation because when I got to the ER they took X-Rays only to find out somehow I had not broken or fractured any bones. I get my final cast on Thursday, for now I have a temporary cast that allows my ankle to have room when it swells. Ill keep you posted on whether or not surgery is required for any possible torn or hurt ligaments. Here's a picture of my ankle when I dislocated it.

Spinner Bait Fishing
Went fishing tonight and caught a 4lb. bass on my black spinner bait. I was unable to take a picture of it but it fought hard and was a blast to catch. This time of year spinner baits and some small crank/ slash baits are ideal for cold weather fishing. Fishing soft plastics will still work, but the bass are more picky during these cold winter months. During colder weather bass are not as active as the warmer summer months. Because of this we use baits that deliver a lot of action and are not to fast or slow in their presentation. This is ideal for spinner bait usage, spinner baits can be worked at different speeds depending on location, time of day or just preference of the bass at that moment. Depending on water clarity you will use different blades and skirt colors for your spinner bait. If the water is pretty clear and it is around mid-day, i always go with a white colored skirt with a willow leaf blade " thin and long blade". When its closer to night time i usually go with a darker colored skirt, this helps your bait look more realistic during the evening hours. A Colorado blade "short and round blade" is used for later day fishing mostly rather than day time because of the action it puts out, this attracts fish at night.

Weekend Fishing
Friday night went fishing after dark for a change and was killing it with an all black spinner bait. Ended up with 2 nice ones a round 2lb's. Then Saturday afternoon went to another lake during the day with a fluke for the first few minutes caught a small one then put on my white and blue spinner bait. The bass love spinner baits and crank baits this time of year. Caught two more on a spinner bait around 2-2 1/2lb's. Sorry no pictures, but ill have some more coming soon.

Fishing Today
Today had a great bass hit me hard around 5:30PM he was about 3lb and fought like a champ. He jumped out of the water 6 times before i could get him in. It was pretty amazing. Can't wait to go again tomorrow. Sorry for the blurry picture..I was having some camera issues. Also the blood on the fish was from a puncture wound he had received during the hook-set. The hook came out clean and he swam away strong.

Busy!
Man, it seems like forever since my last post. Ive been really busy with school and more school haha. Exams and test, football class and trying to eat and sleep in between, that's pretty much my life for the last month. Went fishing a bit today, ended up with a lil guy on my bitsy minnow, not worth taking a picture of. The fish haven't been biting that much lately with the cold weather and unusual weather changes that have been happening. Thats alright though. Football starts back up soon and really stoked for that to happen. Well hope everyone's doing well...

Bitsy Minnow
I used my Bitsy minnow today for the first time. A Strike King Bitsy Minnow is a super tiny 1 1/4" dive bait used for catching brim crappie and shiners, as well as bass! What an amazing little bait. It went across the street to a near by lake to try it out when I ended up catching my first crappie. What fun! Crappie (pronounced like "Croppy"), are a unique fish with a bass mouth with a over sized brim body. they fight good and are a fun to catch. Heres a pic of my new Bitsy Minnow and the Crappie I caught.

Day of Canoeing on Lake Reeves
Today me and my buddy Ian went about our fishing a little different than what were used to today. Thanks to our friend Tyler, he lent us his canoes for the day. We had a blast! Such a fun time, we mostly trolled rattle traps, broken back slash baits and various spinner-baits as we paddled around the lake. It was definitely what you would call a work out, trolling for four hours non-stop. although we didn't manage to hook up to any fish today we had a great time exploring and enjoying the water. Thanks again to Tyler for letting us use his canoes. Here are some pics we took today while on the water.
